The Studies and Observation Group, later known as the Special Operations Group was activated in Vietnam in January 1964. SOG missions involved clandestine ventures into Cambodia, Laos, and North Vietnam to gather intelligence on enemy operations, POW locations, and rescuing downed aircraft crews.
This elite unit was composed of members from all four branches of the armed forces, including Marine Recons, Navy SEALS, Army Special Forces, and Air Force special operations pilots.
